Picture this: the county fair consolidates its booths into one big tent. One table answers questions, one helps you build things, and one hired hand keeps working after the gates close. That's roughly what Microsoft announced Thursday, The Verge reports: a redesigned Copilot app for business users with three tabs, Home, Code and Autopilot. Home, the default screen, combines Copilot Chat with Microsoft's Cowork agent. Jared Spataro, Microsoft's chief marketing officer for AI at work, said, "Home is where you get your bearings, keeping you grounded and moving forward: review recent activity, get suggestions on what Copilot can help with, and pick up work right where you left off." Code lets anyone create an app, tracker, dashboard or automation using the same technology behind GitHub Copilot, then share the results with colleagues as cloud-hosted internal apps. Autopilot, a rebranding of the Scout assistant Microsoft unveiled earlier this year, is pitched as a "digital teammate" that keeps working on assigned tasks after you log off. Spataro's ambition isn't small: "Just as Office defined work for the PC era, the new Copilot is built to define it for the AI era." Two practical details matter. Microsoft is using usage-based billing for Cowork, Code and Autopilot, so what a business pays depends on what its employees do. And it isn't arriving tomorrow: Home and Code start rolling out to Microsoft's Frontier early-access program in the coming weeks, and Autopilot goes into private preview later this month. My take: a helper that works while you sleep is only as good as the instructions and permissions you give it. If your workplace runs on Microsoft 365, ask what Autopilot will be allowed to read and send in your name, who checks its work and how the usage charges get tracked, before it quietly becomes part of the job.
