Sempio Food Services Inc. of Cerritos, California, is recalling 4,596 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken stew that was imported from the Republic of Korea without the benefit of import reinspection, Food Safety News reports, citing the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Two products are affected, both sold in cardboard boxes containing 31.75-ounce (900 g) pouches: "Sempio Korean Ginseng CHICKEN STEW CLASSIC" and "Sempio Korean Ginseng CHICKEN STEW RICH." They were produced on March 30 and carry a best-by date of Sept. 29, 2027, so they could be sitting on a shelf for a good long while. Look for Korean establishment number "GIA15001" and shipping mark "MK-2026-0422-01." The stew went to distributors and retailers in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. FSIS caught the problem during routine surveillance. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury, and anyone worried about getting sick should contact a health care provider. The instructions are simple: don't eat it. Throw it away or take it back to the store where you bought it. Now, nobody has reported getting sick from this stew. The trouble is that nobody checked it at the door, and that inspection is the whole point. A good broth is worth the wait, baby, and so is a stamp you can trust. When in doubt, throw it out.
