Overall, ticket sales were up 58.5% from the same weekend last year, per Rentrak, and the domestic box office is running 19% ahead of last year. Here is the lesson. The fourth-place film may matter most: a modest budget, a story drawn from real life, a director with a documentarian's eye, and young people choosing it on a crowded weekend.
