This weekend at the movies: the Avengers are back from 2019, and Brad Pitt hikes 58 miles out of Alaska with a combat dog.

Grab the popcorn. Gold Derby's weekend forecast has Disney's 'Avengers: Endgame Encore' re-release fighting 'Resident Evil' for No. 1, both around $25 million. If Endgame tops $25.6 million, it beats Titanic's 2012 3D re-release for the biggest re-release opening ever. The Encore includes a few minutes of new footage and a peek at December's 'Avengers: Doomsday.' The one I'm circling: 'Heart of the Beast,' directed by David Ayer. Brad Pitt plays a retired Special Forces veteran who survives a plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness and has to walk 58 miles to safety with his combat dog. It's PG-13, sits at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, and according to Gold Derby, the German shepherd playing Odin is getting some of the best reviews. A veteran and his dog against the elements? That's Saturday night for a lot of families I know. Also opening: A24's 'Primetime,' with Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen of 'To Catch a Predator' (rated R), and DreamWorks' 'Forgotten Island' (PG, 100% on Rotten Tomatoes) for the kids.
