Come sit, baby, and let's talk supper. Taste of Home's Test Kitchen published 15 brand-new fall recipes this week, and they wander well past pumpkin spice. There's pumpkin gnocchi shaped like little pumpkins, with a sage butter sauce and fresh rosemary for the stems, from a home cook in Jupiter, Florida. Any nonna would smile at that. There's an apple butter grilled cheese with tart apples, Muenster and cinnamon raisin bread, ready in 15 minutes. There's a sheet-pan honey chicken with apples, carrots and onions that nods to the Rosh Hashanah tradition of apples dipped in honey. And there's a chicken bacon ranch soup, though at more than 2,100 milligrams of sodium a serving by the magazine's own count, that one's for a cold night and a light hand with the salt. Each of those carries the Test Kitchen Approved seal. The way I see it, fall food has two jobs: warm the house and fill the table. Pick one for Sunday, set an extra plate, and call somebody you haven't fed in a while.
