Deadline bills this as a box office weekend "where there's something for everyone," and for once the phrase is more than marketing. Four wide releases aimed at four different audiences have the trade floating the best late-September weekend since 2018. Contending for No. 1 is "Avengers: Endgame: Encore," the 2019 blockbuster back in theaters with four extra minutes from the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday." Against it: A24's "Primetime," with Robert Pattinson as "To Catch a Predator" host Chris Hansen, the first narrative feature from documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim; Paramount's "Heart of the Beast," a Brad Pitt dog movie Deadline pegs for "flyover states" and grown-ups, which it says left audiences, including its chief critic, in tears; and DreamWorks' family film "Forgotten Island." Here is the lesson. An industry that can rent us our own memories at premium-screen prices will keep doing it until we stop paying.
