Taylor Sheridan's least glamorous show is about to find its biggest audience. All four existing seasons of "Mayor of Kingstown," 40 episodes, arrive on Netflix on Oct. 5, Collider reports, while the fifth and final season stays exclusive to Paramount+. It's the last piece of a licensing deal between the two platforms that also brought CBS's "SEAL Team" and "Watson" to Netflix. The series is set in a fictional Michigan town whose one real industry is the prison, and Jeremy Renner plays Mike, the unofficial broker among inmates, guards, cops, gangs and politicians. Sheridan co-created it with Hugh Dillon, who grew up in the prison town of Kingston, Ontario, and the pilot was the first thing Sheridan ever wrote. Collider's reviewer calls it his best and most underrated work. That's an opinion, but a cast that includes Dianne Wiest and Edie Falco makes a strong case. Here's the lesson worth noticing. Where Sheridan's later hits trade on swagger and romance, "Kingstown" refuses to romanticize anything. Art that tells the truth about a hard place is rarer than it should be. When it shows up, pay attention.
