A San Mateo officer answers a burglary alarm, finds no burglar, meets a big rat and ends up stuck in five sticky traps. The rat got away.

Folks, this one comes straight from the San Mateo Police Department, and they told it on themselves. An officer answered a burglary alarm in the California city and found no sign of a break-in, HuffPost reports, citing the department's Facebook post. What he did find was a sizable rat. According to the department, he screamed "like a teenage girl watching her favorite boy band perform." Then he tried to get out of the rat's way. "Jumping around like he was playing 'The Floor is Lava' landed him trapped in a sticky situation," the department wrote. "Five sticky rat traps to be exact." It even shared photos of the traps stuck to his boots. His partner rushed in without knowing what had happened and, despite feeling the rat skitter across his own boot, kept what the department called "courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, or ridicule." Here's the landing. The rat escaped and, per the department, "is still outstanding." The officer was freed from the traps "to fight crime for another day." And the department offered one professional finding: "We do know rat traps also work on humans and had there been an actual burglar, the rat likely would have detained him for us." Now, give San Mateo credit. Plenty of outfits would have buried this one. They posted the pictures, took the ribbing and gave a lot of folks a laugh. Moral of the story, folks: watch where you step, and if you land in a trap anyway, be the first to tell the story.
