Folks, you know how Grandma always said to double-check the address before you mail something? Turns out that goes for web addresses too. The Washington Post reports that D.C.'s Department of Health Care Finance sent out Medicaid cards listing an outdated ".com" address the agency used to use. The correct one ends in ".gov." A former contractor ran the old site until that contract ended in February, and then somebody else bought it. Domain records show it was re-registered Aug. 14 through a Singapore-based company, with a city in Cambodia listed as the mailing address. So when one new enrollee typed in the link expecting to pick a health care provider, she landed on a foreign-language site with pictures I can't describe on a family website. The agency apologized, says no systems were compromised and no protected data was exposed, and is auditing every printed and digital item to count how many went out. Here's the landing.
